In vertical drilling, the weight/pressure provided by the bit equipment is a big key to speed up drilling activities. However, in certain cases only using WOB cannot be done in drilling activities. Therefore, it is necessary to use additional tools such as a mud motor in the drilling activity. A mud motor (or drilling motor) is a Progressive Cavity Positive Displacement (PCPD) pump that is placed in the drill string to provide additional power to the drill bit while drilling. PCPD pumps use drilling fluid (referred to as drilling mud, or simply mud) to create an eccentric motion in the motor power section which is transferred as concentric power to the drill bit.
