Uso de los recursos espacio y tiempo por una comunidad de lagartijas en el municipio de Santiago Nonualco, El Salvador

The coexistence of the lizards within the communities is carried out through the differential partitioning of the environmental resources. The choice and use of resources is mainly determined by the physiology of the organisms and the adjacent environmental characteristics. The objective of this study was to determine the spatial and temporal niche and the activities of a community of lizards in the municipality of Santiago Nonualco. Methods: 32 sampling points were established, and in each of these, one 100x4 m transect. Sampling was carried out between March and August 2021 using the Visual Encounter Inspection technique. The substrate, time and activity were recorded at the time each individual was observed for the first time. Only Basiliscus vittatus was present in all the microhabitats and Trunk Fallen was the most abundant substrate. In related species such as those of the Anolis genus, a strong spatial niche overlap was obtained. In most species combinations there was high temporal niche overlap, but low spatial overlap. The coexistence of this community of lizards is mainly determined by the differential use of space, which is used above all for basking.La convivencia de las lagartijas dentro de las comunidades se lleva a cabo mediante la partición diferencial de los recursos del ambiente. La elección y uso de los recursos está determinado principalmente por la fisiología de los organismos y las características ambientales adyacentes. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el nicho espacial y temporal y las actividades de una comunidad de lagartijas en el municipio de Santiago Nonualco. Se establecieron al azar 32 puntos de muestreos, y en cada uno de estos un transecto de 100x4 m. Los muestreos se realizaron entre marzo y agosto de 2021 mediante la técnica de Inspección por Encuentro Visual. Se registró el sustrato, hora y actividad al momento de observar por primera vez cada individuo. Solamente Basiliscus vittatus estuvo presente en todos los microhábitats y Tronco caído fue el sustrato de mayor abundancia. En las especies emparentadas como las del género Anolis se obtuvo una fuerte sobreposición del nicho espacial. En la mayoría de combinaciones de especies hubo un alto traslape en el nicho temporal, pero bajo traslape espacial. La coexistencia de esta comunidad de lagartijas está determinada mayormente por el uso diferencial del espacio, el cual es usado sobre todo para el asoleamiento. &nbsp
