Herein, we report a simple PET glycolytic process that combines an environmentally friendly and cheap heterogenous catalyst, calcium oxide (CaO) with microwave irradiation to obtain the monomer bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET), which can be easily separated by crystallisation.
