The research study presented in this dissertation was the result of an exploration of the problem of gender enrollment disparities in STEM elective courses at the high school level in an independent school in the western United States, Western Regional School (WRS; a pseudonym). A review of the literature in chapter one revealed several factors contribute to gender, as well as racial/ethnic, disparities in the enrollment of STEM courses at the high school level as well as selection of STEM majors at the university level.
