International audienceFrom the beginning of the 9th century BC to the middle of the 8th century, the middle Euphrates area was claimed by the Assyrians, especially the small principality of Sūhu. However, due to the Babylonian influence, the Assyrian domination was far from being firm and the eastern Sūhu mainly escaped the dominance of Aššur.On the basis of data convoyed by the Assyrian texte and by the ones coming from Sūhu itself, we propose a reconstitution of the middle Euphrates area history during this period. We propose that the entire Sūhu was definitively conquered when the Assyrians, under Tiglath-pileser III, conducted military operations against Babylonia.
