This thesis allowed for a reflection on the origins of the kingdom of Danxomè (Dahomey), with an emphasis on its urbanisation, beyond the royal capital Agbomè (Abomey). In particular, the study of the site of Zasa (south-west of Agbomè) revealed a significant archaeological potential. Indeed, we identified four archaeological sites. Five conclusive soundings were made on two of them. They confirm that Zasa was a refuge for a diverse population of people: princes, dignitaries, farmers, artisans, fleeing periods of insecurity or disease in Agbomè, the royal capital.
