Crise du discours colonial et apparition de l’historiographie haïtienne

International audienceThe history of Haiti has been gaining interest since the 1990s, particularly in the English-speaking world. These studies focus on the revolution and its consequences. They are little interested in the discourses produced by historians in post-colonial Haiti, the subject of this article, which explores an aspect of the conditions under which this historiography appeared. It emerges facing a huge colonial library by drawing the foundations of its main orientations in the political event (independence) that made it possible. It also inherits the paths opened up by the revolutionary controversies that put the colonial discourse in crisis and gave rise to a practice of action writing that aims to be narrative of the past: a kind of immediate history where the validity of these stories can be discussedL’histoire d’Haïti connaît un regain d’intérêt depuis les années 1990, notamment dans le monde anglophone. Ces travaux se focalisent sur la révolution et ses implications. Ils s’intéressent peu aux discours historiens produits dans l’Haïti postcoloniale, objet du présent article qui explore un aspect des conditions d’apparition de cette historiographie. Celle-ci émerge face à une énorme bibliothèque coloniale en puisant les fondements de ses grandes orientations dans l’événement politique (l’indépendance) qui l’a rendu énonçable. Elle hérite aussi des voies ouvertes par les controverses révolutionnaires qui ont mis en crise le discours colonial et qui ont donné lieu à une pratique d’écriture de l’action qui se veut une mise en récit du passé ; une manière d’histoire immédiate où l’on discute des conditions de validité de ces récits
