Caitrìona O’Reilly : From ecopoetry to ontopoetics

International audienceCaitrìona O'Reilly's poetry is remarkable for its attention to the natural world, to fauna, flora, the four elements and landscapes; for its keen sense of nature's superior and mysterious beauty ("Atlantic", "Octopus", "Six Landscapes", "Bee on Agastache") but also fragility ("Polar", "Iceland"). Without question, it can be described as "ecopoetry". I will explore the fundamentals of O’Reilly’s "eco-conscious" and scholarly work, and show how, in her work, "ecopoetry" amounts to "ontopoetics", which is to be understood as "poetics of being". The natural world captured poetically by Caitrìona O'Reilly is a "perceived" world, i.e. a world seen, observed, felt, touched, heard by a subject. These perceptions - which take precedence over concepts in O'Reilly's work - inform us not only about the world, but above all about the subject who perceives it, and underlie a metaphysical reflection on the being, its subjectivity, its relationship to the other and to the world.La poésie de Caitrìona O’Reilly est remarquable pour l’attention qu’elle porte au monde naturel, à la faune, à la flore, aux quatre éléments et aux paysages ; pour son sens aigu de la beauté supérieure et mystérieuse de la nature (« Atlantic », « Octopus », « Six Landscapes », « Bee on Agastache ») mais aussi de sa fragilité (« Polar », « Iceland »). Sans conteste, on peut la qualifier d’« écopoésie ». Je me propose d’étudier les fondamentaux de cette œuvre « éco-consciente » et érudite, et de montrer comment, chez O’Reilly, l’« écopoésie » est au service d’une « ontopoétique », que l’on entendra au sens de « poétique de l’être ». Le monde naturel saisi poétiquement par Caitrìona O’Reilly est un monde « perçu », c’est-à-dire vu, observé, senti, touché, écouté par un sujet. Or ces percepts – qui priment, chez O’Reilly, sur les concepts – nous instruisent non seulement sur le monde mais surtout sur le sujet qui le perçoit et sous-tendent une réflexion métaphysique sur l’être, sa subjectivité, sa relation à l’autre et au monde
