National audienceThis article deals with the place taken by so-called unskilled employment in the career paths of young people and the effects of com- petition between them according to their qualification levels and its changes over the course of their career and the accumulation of work experience. Recalling that the diploma remains the best protection against unemploy- ment, we show, using data from the Céreq’s Generation 2010 survey, how the context of job shortage faced by this cohort when they enter the labor market, reinforces the effects of competition between young people.
