International audienceMicrowave sintering is a method presenting the following advantages for flash sintering: contactless/volumetric heating, the possibility to control the heating cycle by the microwave power. In this study, the transition from typical 100 K/min to ultra-rapid heating rate 500 K/min is studied. The heating homogeneity of the typical hybrid configuration using silicon carbide susceptors is tested up to the stability limit of the system. We show that zirconia specimen as thick as 10 mm can be heated and sintered up to 500 K/min heating rate at which thermal cracks appear.
