The aim of this thesis was to understand the role of the syllable in the building of the first ortho- phonological relationships.The issue of the size of the psycholinguistic unit (Ziegler & Goswami, 2005) to be considered when creating the first connections between oral and written language has led Doignon-Camus and Zagar (2009, 2014) to propose a model (Developmental Interactive Activation Model with Syllables, DIAMS) that is based on the early phonological availability of the syllable in pre-readers (Liberman et al.,1974) and its functional role in written language processing (i.e., children visually perceive the syllable during learning to read, Doignon-Camus & Zagar, 2014).This model assumes that the first relationships between w...
