X-ray phase contrast and dark-field imaging were proven to have a great potential for medical diagnosis of various pathologies thanks to the new contrasts they can provide compared to conventional radiography. Contrary to the attenuation that is directly visible on a radiography as the “shadow” of the sample, the phase and dark-field signals need special set-ups for them to be retrieved. Phase contrast imaging techniques were first invented using super-powerful x-ray sources: synchrotrons. However, those sources are not compatible with clinical routines.
