While micas are among the most dated minerals in 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, their use in thermochronological reconstructions is limited by the lack of reliable data on 40Ar diffusion. The goal of this thesis was to calibrate the 40Ar diffusivity in micas through a dual approach, empirical and theoretical. The empirical study of the 40Ar diffusion was undertaken on muscovite grains from the very-slowly cooled Harney Peak granite (South Dakota, USA). We quantified the 40Ar diffusivity in these grains by combining high spatial resolution isotope mapping with microstructural characterization, and in situ crystallo chemistry.
