The BRCA2 tumor suppressor functions in repair of DNA by homologous recombination through regulating the action of Rad51. In turn, BRCA2 appears to be regulated by other interacting proteins. Dss1, a small interacting protein that binds to the C-terminal domain, has a profound effect on activity as deduced from studies on the BRCA2-related protein Brh2 in Ustilago maydis.
