Using microbubble ozonation (MO) technique to disintegrate sludge is a promising sludge treatment process. To enhance the lysis and reduction of sludge, the catalytic ozonation consisting of MO and sewage sludge derived char (SC) were combined. Total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), total nitrogen and phosphate (TN and TP) were selected as main parameters for evaluating the treatment performance both in solids and supernatant. With the utilization of the catalytic MO, the ozone utilization and sludge reduction were largely improved. At a reaction time of 90 min, an ozone utilization efficiency exceeding 99% was achieved by using a MO system.
