Since the publication of the Guidelines for Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) of Products by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) in 2009, there has been an increase in publications and research using this tool to assess the positive or negative social impacts of products and services. This can be done by assessing all processes in the material supply chain, thereby identifying and quantifying the respective social impacts to inform decision makers.
