The purpose of this theoretical essay is to present a theoretical and conceptual overview of decoloniality as a theoretical and political movement and its incursions into the teaching of biology and environmental education. First, the concept and historical elements of decoloniality are presented, as well as neighboring concepts that are even often used as synonyms (postcolonialism and southern epistemologies). We also present some critiques woven to this movement in order to alert the need not to romanticize the movement and question it from praxis to enhance it.
