The observed and predicted effects of global warming make critical the studies on thermal biology of living organisms. Temperature is indeed known to influence almost all parameters of ectotherms such as insects. This thesis on thermal biology of the crop pest Spodoptera littoralis is based on the experimental study of key aspects linked to insecticides effects, fitness parameters and olfactory sensitivity. Methodological and conceptual contributions were made by this work A first contribution was to show that the negative effect of high temperatures on fitness is often underestimated by studies using constant temperatures.
