Roadside stormwater ponds (SWP) are found along roads to clean up roadway water before its release into the environment. Despite the pollution, these SWP are colonized by amphibians. In the Bas-Rhin (eastern France), a very modified landscape with few natural wetlands, amphibians reproduce in substitute sites such as SWP. During my PhD, I was interested in the use of SWP by Green frogs & Green toads. The results indicate that the SWP in the Bas-Rhin are ecological traps but only in the presence of a high density of tadpole predator leeches, and surprisingly not because of pollution.
