This article presents a theoretical discussion of the most accepted forms of social capital in the literature: bonding, bridging, and linking. It studies the relationship between the forms of social capital and Granovetter's strength of weak ties thesis, the principle of homo-heterophilia and Lin's status attainment theory. In addition, an extension of the theoretical model of the forms of social capital is proposed.
