Aquatic organisms are able to adapt to the toxic effects of chemical contaminants in the water. The qualitative study of these responses is even more crucial in a climate change context. The search for biomarkers in ecotoxicology is key to developing tools for environmental monitoring. In this context, proteomics on sentinel bivalve species, such as marine mussels (genus: Mytilus) and freshwater mussels (genus: Dreissena), represent an open approach providing new knowledge on the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in stress responses.
