The role of outsourcing in the structuring of international trade

Au cours des dernières années, l'environnement industriel a subi de grands changements conduisant à un développement des flux du commerce international. Dans ce mouvement la sous-traitance s'est imposée comme une forme d'organisation de la production étendue à l'échelle internationale. Toutefois, ce phénomène a fait l'objet de très peu d'analyses théoriques et factuelles. En effet, en raison de son caractère multiforme, l'analyse de la sous-traitance internationale est confrontée à une extrême hétérogénéité des approches et des définitions. Afin de mieux comprendre cette forme d'externalisation, le présent travail se propose d'étudier théoriquement et empiriquement la sous-traitance internationale à partir d'une double démarche. Il s'agit tout d'abord d'évaluer la pertinence des nouveaux modèles théoriques qui visent à expliquer les phénomènes d'outsourcing international dont relève la sous-traitance internationale. Ensuite, positionner la sous-traitance internationale dans les relations économiques internationales à l'aide d'un certain nombre de repères analytiques, dans le but de comprendre les principales orientations de la France dans ce domaine.In recent years, the industrial environment has undergone great changes leading to the development of international trade flows. In this movement, subcontracting has established itself as a form of organization of production extended to the international scale. However, this phenomenon has been the subject of very few theoretical and factual analyses. Indeed, due to its multifaceted nature, the analysis of international subcontracting is confronted with an extreme heterogeneity of approaches and definitions. In order to better understand this form of outsourcing, this work proposes to study theoretically and empirically international subcontracting from a dual approach. It is first of all a question of evaluating the relevance of the new theoretical models which aim to explain the phenomena of international outsourcing to which international subcontracting falls. Then, position international subcontracting in international economic relations using a number of analytical benchmarks, with the aim of understanding the main orientations of France in this area
