L’arthroplastie de hanche, c’est-à-dire le remplacement de l’articulation par une prothèse totale de hanche (PTH), est un enjeu de santé majeur du fait du vieillissement de la population et de la hausse des atteintes ostéoarticulaires. Cependant, la durée de vie d’une PTH in vivo est difficilement estimable à l’aide des test in vitro actuellement définis par les normes car ceux-ci ne mettent pas en relation les mécanismes tribologiques d’obtention des particules et leurs conséquences biologiques.
