Crop diversification is a major issue for agroecology, but it comes up against a situation of lock-in around a few dominant crop species. The objective of the thesis is to identify ways out of these locked-in situations, drawing on existing crop diversification experiences in three regions in France, Italy and Sweden. By identifying crosscutting diversification mechanisms in these three regions, this work shows the diversity of ways to diversify and of the associated processes.The analysis of the pathways of farms that diversified their crops enables us to highlight farmers’ motivations to diversify and the combinations thereof.
