Indigenous peoples rights in the jurisprudence of inter-American court of Human Rights

Indigenous peoples have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, the various groups of indigenous peoples around the world share common problems relates to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples. When there are no domestic laws that recognise indigenous rights, o such laws exist but there is no political will to enforce them, indigenous peoples in the Americas may turn to the Inter-American human rights system. Consequently, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights has developed a progressive case law in this area.
