Advantages and Disadvantages of Electronic Money in the Context of the Modern World

This scientific article examines the origins of electronic money and the relationship between electronic money and cash. The classification of electronic money and its features are analyzed in detail. The legal regulation of electronic money in Lithuania is discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of different types of electronic money are emphasized; virtual currency, electronic central bank money, and cryptocurrency are discussed; and the most popular cryptocurrencies to date are outlined. Much attention is paid to the review of the future prospects of electronic money, and the possibilities of using electronic money in the context of the modern world are singled out
