Less well known than the Dordogne for reasons linked to the history of research, Burgundy nevertheless contains a great many prehistoric sites, particularly those dating from the recent Middle Palaeolithic. Since the beginning of the century, numerous open-air sites have been recorded and described. Most often a publication is devoted to the study of the lithic industry, generally typological, but the chronology is little known. The attribution of the industry to the Middle Palaeolithic is then made on typo-technological criteria, and these results are used in comparative studies.
