This thesis studies the formation of the collections of Roman antiquities in the Louvre and in regional museums, especially in the south-east of the country, during the period from 1790 to 1848, considering the relations between these institutions through exchanges and acquisitions. The concept of heritage that guides our research leads us to examine how the Louvre museum was founded during the Revolution, and to compare its role to that of the Cabinet des médailles and to identify critical figures who played a decisive role in the history of the museum.
