Motivation of Secondary School Learners to Study English

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of motivation to learn a foreign language, especially focusing on the English language and the motivation of secondary school learners. The first chapters define the term motivation and its basic division and theories are introduced. Further on, the thesis describes motivational factors in learning a foreign language as well as in teaching it in a school environment. Additionally, the motivational role of a teacher is examined. The last part of the thesis is devoted to the specifics of the English language and secondary school learners. The aim of the analytical part is to evaluate the motivation of secondary school learners for studying the English language and to find out how significant a teacher's influence in this process is. For this purpose, a qualitative survey of twenty-three final year secondary school learners was used. Its results are processed in through the analytical part of this thesis.
