The genre of fairy tales in Julius Zeyer's work

This diploma thesis deals with the specific process of adaptation of folklore topic in the work of Julius Zeyer. The thesis is divided into the explanatory part and the practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the history and development of the fairy tale genre, its main representatives, characteristic features, classification possibilities and also the history of folkloristics. There is also included is a chapter on the lumírovci movement and the life and work of Julius Zeyer. The practical part describes the plot of selected works, which are then analyzed on the basis of theories of C. G. Jung, Marie-Louis von Franz and V. J. Propp that are explained in the explanatory section. Finally, every work is categorized according to Toman, Šmahelová and Propp classifications
