Latin American integration between the 20th and the 21th century. Conflict of models and correlation with the European community experience.

While the integration of Latin America is a subject of study still new and little frequented in the European Universities, the European Commission acknowledged that historical process with two semantic upgrade. The first one was the redefinition of the relationship between the EU and the Latin American bloc from a “strategic association” to a “global player partnership” (European Commission, 2009). The second one, was the acceptation in January 2013 of the existence of Latin-America as a block changing the name of bilateral meetings from EU-LAC to EU-CELAC, or else from a block (the EU) with a group of countries to the summit between two blocks. The proposed project, "Latin American integration between the 20th and the 21th century", aims to study Latin American integration from the point of view of the so called “history of the present time”, in a context where it’s important the contribution of other disciplines and through a dialectical confrontation with the experience of the European Union. Moreover, we will uncover the strengths and weaknesses of past projects in order to understand why the initiatives undertaken during the last decade appear successful. In a multidisciplinary perspective, we will analyse the process through which organisations such as UNASUR, ALBA, South Bank, CELAC, together with the newly evolved Mercosur, have started to play an increased role in the development of a new continental equilibrium centred around the consolidation of Brazil as regional power and global player
