Myocardial infarction remains a leading cause of mortality in developed countries. Although timely reperfusion is indispensable for ischemic myocardium salvage, final infarct size is due to both ischemia and reperfusion injuries. Cardioprotection consists of activating endogenous signaling protective pathways to decrease ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injuries. Mitochondrial fission has been shown increased after ischemia, thus we studied the impact of mitochondrial dynamics proteins deficiency in mice models.
