Countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) are known to struggle withregards to maintaining sustainable levels in their economic activities. This thesis analyses the effectiveness ofthe Bank of Central African States’ (BEAC) monetary policy using certain parameters essential to its monetary policy and economic characteristics of countries in the CEMAC region. The first chapter discusses the importance of BEAC’s inflation targeting strategy. It establishes from a hybrid Phillips Curve and a non linear smooth transition regression model that the bank’s current inflation objective of 3% is significantly lower than the empirically obtained inflation of 4.53%.
