My thesis work focused on the determination of the fine structure constant from the measurement of the ratio 'h/m' between the Planck constant and the atomic mass which is currently the limiting factor for the accuracy of the fine structure constant. Our approach to obtain a value of 'h/m' is based on the combined measurement of the recoil velocity induced by the absorption of photon momenta and the frequency of the lasers used to manipulate the atomic waves.
