Central Asia played an important role in the networks of exchange of ideas, knowledge and goods between East and West. Recent archaeological research shows that the formation of these networks dates back to the Bronze Age, and that the Xinjiang region is at the center of these issues. The beginning of direct interactions is due to the spread of the Qiemu'erqieke culture from the Altai region, which establishes the first contacts with the cultures of the Hexi Corridor in eastern Xinjiang. The gradual expansion of the Andronovo culture from western Central Asia maintained these relationships and completed the formation of new contact routes between Central Asia and the Hexi Corridor.
