Superconducting cables are widely used in high field magnets and have recently been extended to electricity transport. Cables are composed of a complex assembly of superconducting strands, themselves composed of superconducting filaments twisted in a metallic matrix and surrounded by an outerlayer. The electrical-strain dependence of individual strands is known to be responsible for the degradation of the electrical performance of cables.
