Lipid and lipoprotein disorders in malignant breast neoplasms patients under chemotherapy

Introduction: Breast cancer is a major public health problem and the most common cancer in women. New treatment had led to improved outcomes and increased patient survival. Although chemotherapy is necessary to improve disease-free survival as well as the overall survival of patients, it is associated with long-term side effects, including cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are common complications after chemotherapy due to the direct cardio toxicity of chemotherapeutic drugs as well as drugs effect on lipid levels. Purpose: To monitor the change in lipid profile in breast cancer patients under chemotherapy in relation to the response to treatment. Methodology: This is a prospective study involving patients with independent stage of breast cancer from 2018 to 2020. Three consecutive measurements were performed and a biochemical-lipid hematological test was performed: glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, total proteins, albumin, σφαιρίνη, ApoA, ApoB and Lp(a) before initiation, at baseline, and during the last chemotherapy of the first regimen.
