Detonation-based propulsion systems are desired due to their potential for thermodynamic cycle efficiencies much higher than traditional, constant pressure deflagration-based systems. Additionally, the ability to propagate in high-Mach number flow regimes makes detonations promising for supersonic combustion applications.
