Utilizing slides to augment instruction is a common and promising practice among language educators. However, slide design matters. While well-designed slides can support students\u27 comprehension and engagement, poorly designed slides can produce misunderstanding, frustration, and disengagement. This article describes five basic graphic design principles teachers can apply when creating slide presentations. Through the application of these principles, instructional materials have a higher potential of being both visually appealing and pedagogically effective
