OS ASSENTAMENTOS RURAIS FRENTE À EXPANSÃO DA MONOCULTURA DA CANA-DE-AÇÚCAR NO ESTADO DE GOIÁS

Brazil is currently the world’s largest producer of sugarcane, and the state of Goiás is the third in terms of planted area in the country, surpassed only by São Paulo and Minas Gerais states. During the new expansion process of the sugarcane in Goiás, it has occupied the most diverse territories, even if agribusiness or family farming. This article aims to discuss some aspects related to the insertion of the sugarcane monoculture in areas with a predominance of family farms, especially into the Rural Settlements projects provided by INCRA in the state of Goiás. Among the materials and methods, it was analyzed the expansion of the sugarcane cultivation in Goiás, between the years 2005 and 2011, in areas of rural settlements of agrarian reform - INCRA/GO-SR04 circumscription. They were analyzed in a GIS environment, with data provided by INCRA/GO, LAPIG/UFG and INPE/CANASAT, verifying the presence of sugarcane crop in these settlements. The results show the majority of rural settlements not in areas of infl uence of the sugarcane. However, some occurrence was registered in the nearby settlements areas, where there is an influence up to three ethanol plants. Although we have not found the trend of sugarcane cultivation in these settlements, the study suggests periodic monitoring in such locations, using data obtained by remote sensing.Atualmente, o Brasil é o maior produtor mundial de cana-de-açúcar, sendo o estado de Goiás o terceiro lugar em termos de área plantada no país, superado apenas pelos estados de São Paulo e Minas Gerais. O cultivo da cana-de-açúcar, em seu novo processo de expansão, vem ocupando os mais diversos territórios, seja da agricultura empresarial, seja da agricultura familiar. O presente artigo tem como objetivo discutir alguns aspectos referentes à inserção da monocultura da cana-de-açúcar em regiões com predomínio da agricultura familiar, em especial nos Projetos de Assentamentos Rurais promovidos pelo Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária - INCRA no estado de Goiás. Neste contexto, a presença do cultivo de cana-de-açúcar foi avaliada nas áreas de assentamentos rurais da reforma agrária - circunscrição do INCRA/GOSR04, para o recorte temporal entre 2005 e 2011, empregando-se dados do projeto INPE/ CANASAT, INCRA/GO e UFG/LAPIG. A análise se deu num ambiente de Sistema de Informações Geográficas (SIG), onde verificou-se a presença de usinas e plantios nas proximidades dos referidos assentamentos. Os resultados demonstram que a maioria dos assentamentos rurais ainda não está em área de influência das usinas sucroalcoleiras, ainda que parte destes se encontre em áreas próximas, sendo alguns sob a influência de até três usinas. Embora não se tenha constatado a tendência de plantio de cana-de-açúcar nestes assentamentos, o estudo sugere um monitoramento periódico em tais localidades, por meio de dados obtidos por sensoriamento remoto
