In this article, we present a historic overview of the training of Brazilian Sign Language Translators/Interpreters (TILSP), in a national context, beginning in the 20th century. The objectives are: to present a diachronic and synchronic line of the creation of TILSP training courses; and to detail the facts and historical data of the courses, containing information about the years, the names of possible proponents and the curricular contents. The theoretical framework is supported by the fields of Historiography of Translation and Interpretation; Sign Language Translation and Interpreting Studies; and the path of TILSP education.
