Objective: To analyze mortality from diabetes mellitus as an underlying and associated cause, in the population in Recife and to identify the chances of dying as an associated cause. Method: analytical cross-sectional population study, between 2014 and 2019, using secondary data, between 2014 and 2019, using data from the Mortality System. Results: a total of 9,799 records analyzed; 57.2% of deaths were female, 95.3% were individuals over 50 years of age.
