This article is the result of a completed thesis research whose general objective was to understand the limits and possibilities of the dialogue between the experiential knowledge, the formation and the work of the professors of the History course of the Federal University of Maranhão in the face of the tensions and contradictions presented by the reality of higher education. The research methodology is based on a critical qualitative approach, based on dialectical historical materialism. Thematic Oral History was used.
