The globalization of COVID-19 and its climate impacts: a study of the G7 countries

With the reduction in economic activities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, are the signs of breathing presented by the environment permanent? Is globalization responsible for the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic? Will the shocks caused by the pandemic be able to alert societies to the urgency of the climate issue? Focusing on the G7 countries, we explored quantitative data and selected indicators for the dimensions studied: globalization, pandemic, and climate change. It was observed that some of the analyzed countries that performed better in the globalization index performed worse in the pandemic control, and even with the slowdown in economies and the drop in emissions, the numbers rose again. Com a redução das atividades econômicas ocasionada pela pandemia da COVID-19, os sinais de respiro apresentados pelo meio ambiente são permanentes? É a globalização responsável pela eclosão da pandemia da COVID-19? Os abalos provocados pela pandemia serão capazes de alertar as sociedades para a urgência da questão climática? Focando nos países do G7, exploramos dados quantitativos e indicadores selecionados para as dimensões estudadas: globalização, pandemia e mudança do clima. Observou-se que alguns dos países analisados que performam melhor no índice da globalização tiveram pior desempenho na gestão da pandemia, e mesmo com a desaceleração das economias e a queda nas emissões, os números voltaram a subir.
