Influence of dental aesthetics on the self-esteem of university students

Objetivo: El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar la influencia estética dental en la autoestima de jóvenes estudiantes de la Universidad Autónoma Regional de los Andes Sede Santo Domingo. Método: Se realizó una investigación descriptiva para un muestreo de datos eficaz, usando la técnica de muestreo al azar. Resultados y conclusiones: Los resultados reflejaron que diferentes factores, podrían llegar a afectar seriamente en la conducta y a la autopercepción de jóvenes, al igual que su autoestima debido a los estándares de belleza impuestos por la sociedad actual, hoy en día se ha convertido en una necesidad el cuidar la estética dentofacial y tratar de conseguir la perfección. Las personas con desarmonía dentofacial significativa muestran una autoestima negativa y un mal ajuste social ya que la apariencia general y la aceptabilidad social se posicionan como determinantes de la posibilidad de que las personas tengan una buena autopercepción.Objective: The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of dental aesthetics on the self-esteem of young students at the Universidad Autónoma Regional de los Andes, Santo Domingo Campus. Method: A descriptive investigation was carried out for an effective data sampling, using the random sampling technique. Results and conclusions: The results reflected that different factors could seriously affect the behavior and self-perception of young people, as well as their self-esteem due to the beauty standards imposed by today's society, today it has become a necessity to take care of the dentofacial aesthetics and try to achieve perfection. People with significant dentofacial disharmony show negative self-esteem and poor social adjustment, since general appearance and social acceptability are positioned as determinants of the possibility that people have a good self-perception
