Relación entre la colonización de la microbiota intestinal y el desarrollo de patologías inflamatorias intestinales. Revisión narrativa de la literatura.

Inflammatory bowel diseases, defined as chronic intestinal inflammation and where the immune system intervenes, constitute two main disorders: ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. In the first, the colon is affected and is characterized by inflammation of the mucous tunic; while in the second, any part of the gastrointestinal tract (from the oral cavity to the anus) can be affected and is characterized by transmural inflammation. In both, the existence of an abnormal activation of the immune system associated with the mucosa against commensal bacteria of the enteric tract is known –due to an infectious process against an environmental trigger in individuals with genetic susceptibility–, to which it has been attributed a growing incidence of morbidity worldwide. Although the etiopathogenic mechanism is completely unknown, the alteration of the intestinal microbiota has been considered a new factor involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. Therefore, the objective of this narrative review of the literature was to identify the relationship between the colonization of the intestinal microbiota and the development of intestinal inflammatory pathologies, according to the literature published between 2003 and 2020.Las enfermedades inflamatorias intestinales, definidas como una inflamación intestinal crónica en donde interviene el sistema inmunológico, se constituyen en dos trastornos principales, la colitis ulcerativa y la enfermedad de Crohn. En la primera, se encuentra afectado el colon y se caracteriza por la inflamación de la túnica mucosa; mientras que en la segunda, se puede afectar cualquier parte del tracto gastrointestinal (desde la cavidad oral hasta el ano) y se caracteriza por una inflamación transmural. En ambas se conoce la existencia de una activación anómala del sistema inmunológico asociado a la túnica mucosa frente a bacterias comensales del tracto entérico –debido a un proceso infeccioso frente a un desencadenante ambiental en individuos con susceptibilidad genética–, a las cuales se les ha atribuido una creciente incidencia de morbilidad a nivel mundial. Aunque se desconoce en su totalidad el mecanismo etiopatogénico, la alteración de la microbiota intestinal ha sido considerada un nuevo factor involucrado en la patogenia de la enfermedad. Por tanto, el objetivo de esta revisión narrativa de la literatura consistió en identificar la relación entre la colonización de la microbiota intestinal y el desarrollo de patologías inflamatorias intestinales, de acuerdo a la literatura publicada entre 2003 y 2020
