Nanocarriers for antioxidant cosmetic products

Skin aging occurs as a result of multiple oxidative reactions due to both intrinsic and external factors which promote wrinkle formation, dryness, tissue elasticity loss, and thinning, among other visible signs. There are many strategies aiming to reduce these signs of aging and/or to treat age-related skin problems. Nanovehiculization of antioxidant ingredients represents one of the most capable technologies of the twenty-first century. The use of nanocarrier systems has added novel advantages of improved skin penetration, depot effect with sustained release of active substances, and targeted site effects. Various innovative formulation types for special delivery systems like nanocapsules, submicroscopic tiny bits, vesicular, particulate systems, emulsion type, particulate type, and other delivery systems are discussed in this chapter. Special attention is paid to those products based on eco-friendly and naturally derived ingredients, which might represent interesting raw materials for the formulation of future innovative nanocosmetics. Thus, several cosmetic delivery systems for natural antioxidant ingredients are reviewed here and constitute highly promising technologies with enormous potential as customer products.Fil: Gonzalez, Jimena Soledad.
