This study investigates whether a foreign language is only learned or truly acquired when speakers use the language in an immersive environment outside the target country. In order to approach the matter systematically, we based our preliminary assumptions on a specific group of students at the Department of German Language and Literature of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, since they are immersed in the language and could potentially acquire it at a bilingual level. By employing both quantitative and qualitative methods we reach the conclusion that the dominant emerging phenomena, transfer and equal morphosyntactic correctness, suggest that students indeed acquire the language and thus reach a bilingual level
