This study dealt with the topic of the role of the livestock sector in developing foreign trade in Somalia for the period (2010 - 2019). The main problem of the study was what is the role of the livestock sector in the development of foreign trade in Somalia? What are the difficulties, obstacles and challenges that guide this important sector? Somalia has potential economic resources such as livestock, fisheries and agricultural resources that have not been harnessed by employing them in a rational manner. This research aims to identify the contribution of the livestock sector to the development of foreign trade in Somalia and to cover the challenges it faces in this sector. This study states four hypotheses, including the important role of the livestock sector in developing foreign trade in Somalia, and also there are many investment opportunities in the livestock sector in Somalia. This study followed the (historical) method and the (descriptive analytical) method. The study reached many results, the most important of which are: - The continuing civil wars, political instability and national security in Somalia are among the most important obstacles to the livestock sector and negatively affect livestock exports. -The livestock sector is considered one of the most driving sectors of the national economy. However, this sector is completely neglected in terms of providing production inputs, veterinary care and other services. - Although Somalia has a long marine coast and enjoys great fish wealth and other marine goods, the Somali society has not benefited economically from this tremendous wealth. The study also recommended several recommendations, the most important of which are: ­ paying attention to training technical personnel capable of dealing with and caring for livestock, with special focus on diagnosing diseases and controlling local and imported epidemic diseases· - Development and reconstruction of veterinary services centers in all animal production areas and attention to veterinary quarantine to ensure the quality of production for livestock exports and their competition in foreign markets. - Establishing specialized banks for the livestock sector, such as the Livestock Bank and the Agricultural Bank, and providing banking facilities to the sector of producers and investors to expand the marketing base and create competitive factors that help develop marketing efficiency locally and abroad
