Soteriology and cosmogony in the Corpus Hermeticum: the path of initiation in ancient hermeticism

O Corpus hermético é uma coletânea atribuída a Hermes Trismegisto composta por 17 breves tratados de caráter pedagógico-sapiencial, redigidos ao redor dos sécs. I-III d.C., nos arredores de Alexandria. Transitando entre a religião, o misticismo e a filosofia, esses textos versam sobre a criação do mundo, a condição humana e o seu potencial ontológico. Pretendo estudar as estruturas representativas do hermetismo e demonstrar de que modo se alinhavam a origem do cosmo (ἀρχή) e a salvação humana (τέλος), isto é, como início e fim apresentam, nessa corrente de pensamento, uma interdependência necessária. Para tanto, tais textos se deixam guiar inicialmente por uma avaliação binária dos entes que constituem o universo, sustentada nos conceitos de imortalidade-imobilidade (positiva) e mortalidademovimento (negativa). A ascensão humana corresponderia à reabilitação do ser humano à sua condição natural primeira, propriamente divina e imortal, latente em sua capacidade noética, a gnose (γνῶσις), itinerário esse que sugere uma consubstancialidade entre causalidade macrocósmica e finalidade individual, ambas de algum modo sustentadas na experiência do \"intelecto\" (νοῦς). Para acompanhar o estudo, apresento uma tradução integral de todo o Corpus hermético, a partir do texto estabelecido por Nock e Festugière (1945-54).The Corpus Hermeticum is a collection attributed to Hermes Trismegistus composed of 17 brief treatises of pedagogical-sapiential character, written around the I-III centuries A.D. Alternating between religion, mysticism and philosophical speculation, these texts deal with the creation of the world, the human conduct and its ontological potential. I intend to study the representative structures of Hermetism and demonstrate how the origin of the cosmos (arkhe) and human salvation (telos) were aligned, that is, how the beginning and the end present a necessary interdependence in this doctrine. In order to do so, these texts are initially guided by a binary evaluation of the living beings that make up the universe, based on the dichotomy between immortality (positive) and mortality (negative). Human ascension would correspond to the rehabilitation of man to his first natural condition, properly divine and immortal, latent in his capacity for epiphanic intellection, gnosis, an itinerary that suggests a consubstantiality between macrocosmic causality and individual purpose, both of which depending on the attainment of νοῦς. To accompany the study, I will present a complete translation of the entire Corpus Hermeticum, based on the text established by Nock and Festugière (1945-54)
